How To Apply

IMPORTANT MESSAGE! Art Angels is in transition and will not be offering a grant program in 2023, but we encourage you to apply for support via ValleyCreates at the Community Foundation. Thank you!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What are the criteria used in making grant decisions?
Each application will be evaluated based on its: (1) Uniqueness & Creativity, (2) Use of the arts in creating greater access & impact in and around the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts, and (3) Plan to engage audiences.
For more information on what kinds of projects we tend to fund, please refer to: WHO WE FUND
Which counties make up the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts?
Hamden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties.
I’ve applied for an Art Angels grant in the past. Can I apply again?
Absolutely. Please note that this year’s grant committee is a completely different group of people. Please do not assume we will remember or know of your work, if you’ve applied in previous years. Previously funded programs are not guaranteed funding.
What kind of art projects can receive funding?
Including, but not limited to:
- Visual arts
- Poetry/writing projects
- Storytelling projects
- Zinemaking
- Theatre performances
- Musical performances
- Education-based arts
- Arts-based Activism
- Digital media art
- Dance/Movement
- Expressive arts
- Healing arts / traditional healing practices
- TV Media production / podcasting
- Archiving / Storykeeping
- Oral histories & arts criticism
I am a solo artist. Am I eligible for funding?
At this time, we are only able to fund fiscally sponsored solo artists. See: What is a Fiscal Sponsor/Agent? for more information. Each solo artist must include in their application a letter from their fiscal sponsor outlining their fiscal sponsorship agreement.
If you are concerned about your eligibility, please contact apply@theartsangels.org.
We are not an arts-based organization. Can we still apply?
Your application must demonstrate that you have the tools, support, skills, and access to make your arts project succeed in order to receive Art Angels funding.
For example: If you’re an anti-violence organization interested in holding a puppet show to teach school-aged children about consent, tell us in your application how you intend to hire a Teaching Artist, or a local puppet troupe to guide the design and execution of the project.
We are artists under the age of 18. Can we still apply?
All artists must have a fiscal sponsor, no matter the age. (See above: I am a solo artist. Am I eligible for funding?)
In addition to my application, I’d like to send along examples of my work in the form of links, media, and other visuals. How can I send this?
The grant application will have a section that will allow you to include links to videos and social media posts to accompany your application. Please send no more than one PDF document to help exemplify your artistry and community impact to apply@theartangels.org. Please make sure to label the email with the same name you used in your application. Mislabeled materials sent via email are at risk for being disregarded.
My question hasn’t been answered. Help!
We will be holding information sessions in January, February, March, and April until applications close. If you’d like to attend one of these sessions, please email apply@theartangels.org.
